Icarus Unwinged, a carved wood sculpture by Bruce Thomson, a blue-green figure reaching from a domed base towards a gilded wing

Icarus Unwinged carves the moment after the Greek myth's fall: Icarus, who flew too near the sun on wings of wax and feathers, stripped now of the wings that failed him. The blue-green figure reaches from a domed base while the gilded wing stands just out of reach.

Bruce worked with the natural grain and growth of the wood, so the figure seems to rise out of the timber itself. It stands among his wood and bronze sculptures.
