The dramatic climax — Tam and his horse Maggie make a desperate leap across the Brig o’ Doon to escape the pursuing witches.

The climax of the poem: Tam and his grey mare Maggie make their desperate leap for the keystone of the Brig o’ Doon, the hags a stride behind. One of the Tam o’ Shanter illustrations from Bruce’s Glenfarclas 40 Year Old whisky commission, told in full in the journal.
