Thessaly (Centaurs Playing Polo)

Etching

Thessaly, an etching by Bruce Thomson of centaurs playing polo across a ploughed field with palms and a low sun behind

Thessaly (Centaurs Playing Polo) sets the half-horse, half-human centaurs of Greek myth, said to roam the plains of Thessaly, into a galloping game.

The subject let Bruce combine two of his recurring loves, the horse and the mythic figure, in a single sweep of movement. He returned to it in the Centaur plate and a painting of the same scene; all belong to his mythology etchings.
